In 2012, Beit Almusica produced a musical play called "Musiqana" (our music) introducing school children to the history and styles of Arabic music
The rationale behind this production comes from the reality that the Arab community suffers from a huge lack of familiarity with the classical Arabic music, even music from historical periods close to ours, when great Arab musicians, singers and composers lived, such as Abed-Alwahab, Umm Kulthum, and Riyad Alsonbati, and others.
As a result, the musical interest of the Arab community nowadays is mostly concerned with light commercial music broadcasted in commercial television channels and has a huge audience.
In light of this, we thought of a way to pass on a small part of the great history of Arabic music, to provide the students with fundamental knowledge with the musical features that were used during that time in history, and are still used today. Musicqana musical introduces its student audience to the heritage of the Arabic music, to folklore songs, to composers and singers who wrote and composed the best songs and musical pieces at that same period of the Arab history. The musical also familiarizes the students with the musical instruments participating in the production, especially that such instruments are considered the most fundamental in the Arabic ensemble, called “takht”. The musical play was successfully developed and performed for hundreds of school children over the past years.
This play was built on the success of our previous production, "Beethoven at Beit Almusica", produced for Europe Day 2010 with the generous support of the European Commission. This interactive, multimedia play introduces school children to five different composers of classical music from Baroque to Romantic. The play was approved to be tun in schools, and successfully performed for thousands of school children across the country over the past few years.
